Eye Strain and Fatigue Post LASIK

I have been struggling with quick eye fatigue and headaches. When on the computer (8 hours a day for work) or even having conversations with people, my eyes just get too tired and go blurry. I have to "flex" my eye muscles to get them back to doing their job. Yes, I have much better vision (was -7.75 in each eye before). But I now have this daily struggle of focus fatigue which is causing migraines and physical fatigue. I come home from work early, sleep it off and get back on the computer. I actually have a lower quality of life than before the procedure.

I've been reading these posts and seeing folks with the same issue that I've been struggling with 2 months post-surgery. I'm hoping that it will go away over time as it's still recent, but my symptoms keep getting dismissed by the doctor and are unknown to friends who have had LASIK.

I'm not sure what the immediate best action is.

  • Do I just wait it out?
  • Do I go on a steroid?
  • Do I get a second opinion?
  • If so, where in San Francisco?
  • Do I do pencil push-ups?
  • Do I get reading glasses?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. But before you do anything else, you need to consult an optometrist who has experience dealing with post-LASIK problems. LASIK may correct visual acuity, but it sometimes disturbs the natural balance where an underlying problem may be present. You may have accommodated to that issue, and now without glasses or contacts, you are having to accommodate to an entirely new way of seeing. An optometrist with this sort of experience can examine you and determine why you are having eye strain.

The fact that your LASIK doctors are dismissing you means simply that they don't want to be bothered. Dismiss them, and see someone who knows how to help. If you need help finding someone, please send me a private message and I'll see what I can do.
