I have had a PK for lasik complications. After the PK I had 10 diopters of astigmatism. I had an rgp that gave me the best vision post-lasik but I was not allowed to wear it because of neovascularization. I have had 3 AK's with compression sutures and a wedge resection with sutures. My astigmatism is now 16.38. Even the surgeon said it was a "nightmare". He did say it looked "a little more regular". What are my chances of getting a lense that I can wear all day without getting NV?

Hi Leslie,

When you were in the rgp previously do you know what materials were used or how high the dk values were? There have been quite a few materials added into the arsenal with rather high oxygen permeability and if your NV came from hypoxia and not fitting issues there may be some hope for you in the newer materials.

Sincerely hopeful that there is the possiblity of an end to your "nightmare."

Dear Leslie;

With 16.00 diopters of corneal astigmatism it would seem to me that your best bet will be a scleral lens. These lenses will vault the irregular cornea and hopefully provide good vision and comfort. The newer designs are now available in highly oxygen permeable materials.
