I AM READING THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE HAVING SUCCESS WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONTACTS, I HAVE AN IRREGULAR ASTIGMATISM AFTER A RECENT LASIK SURGERY, IT HAS RESULTED IN THE LOSS OF TWO LINES BCVA IN MY LEFT EYE AND A GOHST IMAGE. I HATE THAT GOHST!
HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT POST-OP BEFORE CONTACTS ARE SAFE TO INSERT AND REMOVE? I WANT TO TRY ONE AS SOON AS IT IS SAFE. I AM HOPEFULL THIS WILL PROVIDE A SOLUTION FOR MY DIPLOPIA UNTIL CUSTOM ABLATION BECOMES MORE TRUSTWORTHY. |

I am very familiar with your situation. I had the same problem which was made worse after three attempts at corrective follow-up surgery. I waited six weeks (that seemed to be the "surgical concensus" among six doctors I consulted for a healthy cornea). I know have a macrolens in myy right eye that has restored vision to 20/15 and totally eliminated all the ghosting. It's also very comfortable to wear.
Hope this helps. Bob |

I was fit with a soft contact lens to correct remaining myopia at about 5 months. I was fit with a rigid gas permeable macrolens at 7 months out. i would not recommend trying to fit a hard lens sooner than this because of the pressure it can exert upon your healing corneas. I know that I was a slow healer, and it took me 6 months for all of the swelling to leave my eyes. Be patient and read about all the different types of lenses that people have had success with so that you can be an informed consumer.

Has anyone had persistent monocular diplopia that is not correctable by RGPs?
I have had onset of monocular diplopia two months ago, out of the blue, and while my RGPs fixed the problem for a while, they are not fixing the problem now? Anyone have any ideas? - I'm pretty freaked out about this... -UC |

GOHST,
Regarding contact lens wear after LASIK: Please consult your OD for advice as to how soon you can wear either soft or RGP lenses. Also, please remember to re-wet any type of contact lenses before trying to remove them. Otherwise, you can cause yourself excruciating pain, especially early in your healing process. Good luck, Lynne |
