Does anyone know of an OD in Onio who is experienced in fitting patients with post-Lasik complications?

Elizabeth,

You can try using the Doctor Locater on www.visionrestored.com

ODs who use the ZWAVE system are typically very experienced with fitting lenses on irregular corneas.

Good luck,

Lynne

I disagree. The ZWave system is only valid for irregular corneas when used as a tool by experienced fitters and experienced fitters don't necessarily use ZWaves. ZWave fitters "own" a system but owning technology does not make one proficient at being a fitter.

Since this topic has come to the top of the list again, I'd like to comment on Lynne's post. I know Lynne has been successful with her lenses, however, I hear from many others who have had no success with Zwaves.

After talking with a number of very experienced and highly successful RGP fitters, the concensus is that, unfortunately, many ODs who typically use the ZWave system are really NOT very experienced, and have little ability to manipulate the fit beyond whatever the machine spits out. The central cornea may be an "accurate" Rx, but the peripheral curves are a "guess" within a few standard settings. If the practitioner "guesses" wrong, or if you don't happen to fit one of those particular curves, the lenses don't fit or work well.

Without extensive RGP fitting experience, the practitioner using the ZWave tool may do a nice job of fitting a small percentage of corneas with the standard application, but the majority of surgically altered corneas require a more advanced approach to achieve a proper fit, especially those that have undergone very large amounts of ablation (high myopes).
