Most people especially scientist and doctors do not enjoy it when they are bested by a layperson. I am apparently different.
I was shown an incredibly clever yet simple experiment conceived by Tron (whom I always suspected of being secretly a scientist). The experiment is such: Take a plastic dish or even a plastic cup and hold one surface horizontally. Place a drop of NutraTear, Systane, TheraTears, Tears Naturale, etc.and actually any commercially available tear substitute. They will all bead up as the advancing wetting angle is quite a bit higher than 0 degrees. Then slowly increase the angle of the plastic surface so it forms a slope. All the other drops will roll off the plastic without leaving a wet trace except NutraTear. No matter how steep the angle is, only part of the NutraTear drop will move down the slope while leaving a red track behind it. Clearly NutraTear is capable of making the plastic surface completely wettable. I expected that to occur because that is what zero receding wetting angle means! What really suprised me that none of the others could perform this feat, not even those which contain emulsifying agents (such as surfactants and/or detergents). Tear film stability is ensured even on a hydrophobic abnormal surface by a thin layer of ampiphatic polymer contained in NutraTear, Dwelle, and Dakrina that adsorbs at the hydrophobic segments while the hydrophilic segments orient toward the aqueous phase "anchoring" the aqueous film to the solid corneal surface! I am so proud of Tron I could burst! ATTENTION: Please everyone who has used the Holly's Tears successfully, please e-mail me so I can convey some important information to them. Please use: fjholly@dry-eye-institute.org e-mail address. Dr. H. |

Dr H- Just thought I'd add a piece of interest. Way back in l990 I believe I used Dakrina after my first corneal transplant. I remember my surgeon getting the drops from Texas at that time. I had another trasnplant, other eye, and am going to try Dr H's drops again as the other drops have minimal therapeutic properties for me and I had a pretty bad experience with a silicone plug (which fortunatley was removed).
