Recently, I got a pair of RGP from a very famous fitter. But they are driving me crazy. The vision they give me is not stable at all, the left eye is more stable, but bring up peripheral glare in each blink. The right eye has strong star burst (in the night time, every light will show up like a chinese fan at the medial corner). The vision is not natural and smooth, changing in every blink and longer time of stare.
The fitter strongly encourage me to wear them, and he said after a few weeks, these optical problems will be gone, but after I stretch my biggest persistence to wear them for 5 days, and become very depressed and stressed out, and I would rather live without them. Have any of you have the same initial experiences, but end up with a happy natural vision? Please share your experience, I will greatly appreciate it. |

Give the fitter some time. Fitting RGPs on post-RS corneas is not done with a magic wand but with consistent and persistent adjustment and tinkering, tempered by experience.
Anyone spending considerable effort to improve the quality of vision on behalf of RS patients is entering what is not yet recognized as a developing specialty. There is no guidebook. Post-RS corneas are tremendously unique relative to virgin corneas. RGPs are a process, not a retail item. The long term benefit of RGPs is to correct a forever condition. Instant gratification is not the norm. |

lwu,
I found that it took 8 weeks to adapt to my WAVE RGPs post-LASIK. Until then, my eyes teared too much, the RGPs moved around with every blink, and my vision quality kept changing. But - every few blinks, my vision would clear up & I would see better than I did before LASIK. My improvement in night vision during the accommodation period was similar: every few blinks, all the starbursts & haloes went away. I had a lot of trouble wearing my RGPs past lunch time. So, some days I would insert them after lunch - then I could usually wear them until bedtime. My theory about why my accommodation took so long, is that gradually the RGPs caused a small amount of surface re-shaping of my cornea - and as the cornea smoothed out, my wearing comfort increased. At the same time, my vision stabilized. Please stay with your RGPs. Over time, your eyes will adapt and their foreign object response ro the RGPs will lessen. You will find the right cleaning regimen & the best eye drops for you - and you will get the vision improvements you expect. Good luck, Lynne |
