I am 12 years post-RK with progressive hyperopia. For the last two years the hyperopia has been stabilized by reverse geometry RGPs that I could wear comfortably for about 5 hours. Recently, my tolerance for these and some other RGPs has decreased to about 1 hour/day. My OD has ordered some new soft reverse geometry lenses to try.

Does any have any experience with these soft lenses? Do they work? And/or does anyone have any suggestions for increasing my tolerance of the RGPs. I believe a few hours a day is all I need.

They may work well. THey are a different material and will usually have better comfort than the RGP lenses.

Good luck with them and post again to tell us how they go.

Is there anyone that wears soft lenses (post lasik) that has seen any improvement in GASH symptoms? If so, what was the brand/type?

Joel,

I have been through the gammit of contact lenses. If you can only wear a soft lens now, have you tried a Super Nova or piggy backing a soft lens with a Rose K?

These issues can be addressed by determining the cause of the problem. Options available are thickening the lens so it doesn't conform to the corneal shape as well, changing material to not dry so much, adding astigmatic corrections and going for a reverse geometry design.

I have several patients that have had sufficient improvement with just going for a thicker lens. Others need a reverse geometry design which can work well.

good luck.

I could not be fitted with rgps post lasik, too many distortions in the cornea i am told.I have been trying the reverse geometry soft with a thicker lens but after 8-10 fittings, cannot get a stable fit in one particular eye.
I could definately see a big difference in clarity with the RGP's if you can tolerate them.
We are trying to treat my binocularity problem that has caused me dizziness and headaches for almost a year now after the "miracle".
Good luck!
