I had LASIK in July of 1998 because I couldn't see completely clear with my glasses.

I feel the Ophthalmologist depended on the referring Optometrist to do the pre -op work up and he did not do a complete job. Most people I've talked to who had successful procedures had several hours of tests, etc. before their surgery–I did not.

The only reason I even got to meet the Ophthalmologist before the surgery is because I asked to and I feel ultimately it was his responsibility to do a complete exam before he did the surgery and he did not. I was told that any problem that may occur could be corrected with glasses or contacts or an enhancement. WRONG!

I now live in hell with the following problems:

Inconsistency

I was told I would need "readers" - to read because of my age (48) - I use readers for everything remotely close. I had trifocals for awhile but could not get used to them so I have several feet where I can't see at all.

Residual astigmatism which I have glasses for but they are only occasionally helpful

Severe low light problems. I can't drive at night at all.

I use pilocarpine drops which are sometimes helpful in some situations. A 2nd opinion has confirmed that my eyes are dilating past the ablation and there is no treatment to correct my vision at this time. The hardest part is never knowing how I am going to see in any situation. At times I panic because I get in a situation where things are blurry and neither glasses or drops help. This has completely taken over my life. I have considered everything from lawsuits to suicide. I' m tired of even having to think about my eyes anymore.
