My sympathy go out to everyone who is struggling with their poor outcome. Like everyone else I wish I could turn back the clock. My outcome wasn't as bad as it could have been but after a year and a half it is a continuing saga. The initial problem was what my surgeon called loose epithelial which resulted in irregular astigmatism in both eyes and severe dryness. One or two weeks post-op while looking through my microscope I noticed what looked like a piece of dirt in the left eyepiece. When I looked through the right eyepiece with my left eye the same piece of dirt was there, I concluded the dirt was in my eye! In fact I was looking at an agressive cataract. I thought I was looking at a reflection of a dryspot on my eye surface. On my next visit I mentioned that I could see the dryspot on the eye. I expected this "dry spot" to go away and after a few months it just got bigger and my vision became cloudier. I started to realize a dry spot this wasn't and had the doctor look at it, and cataract became the new problem which I finally had corrected three weeks ago. Looks like the cataract surgery may have helped along a retinal detachment. I'll find out about that next week.

The one thing that irks me the most is the silent treatment during the post-op visits, no one want to admit anything is wrong! It is maddening. I don't quite know where to direct my anger, what's done is done. After doing a brief literature review on some of these problems I am certain the risks are significantly understated especially for people with severe myopia. I can't speak for the screening proceedures, except, we all were perfect candidates.
