No more glasses, no more messing with contacts and solutions. Total freedom! What a deal!
In August 1992, my friends at work were taking about an ad appearing in our local newspaper. The ad invited those with myopia to a seminar on correcting vision through RK. At the seminar we were told that the surgery would take no more that a few minutes and you would no longer be dependent on glasses or contacts! The cost was a little high but I thought it would be worth every penny. I figured I would recover the loss in a short time. I would be saving money from my yearly check-ups, glasses and contacts. I checked on the doctor from the ad, he had done over 4000 RK surgeries. This guy was experienced, I could trust him. I was hooked! I scheduled the surgery for October 1992. My vision at the time was pretty bad (650/20 left eye and 700/20 right eye). I walked into the doctors office that day with my glasses and that was the last time I saw 20/20. Three months after the surgery, I was told that I would never see 20/20 again. There was nothing available to restore my vision. I was devastated. Any dreams of enhancing my life had been destroyed. I was one of the unfortunate ones who had an RK mishap. Today, I just want to focus all my efforts on just being able to see better. For seven horrible years, I believed I was the only one. The "unfortunate one." I can no longer drive at dawn or night. I see glare, ghosts, and double images. I have spent a small fortune in trying to improve my sight. One of my biggest worries is I don't know if I will pass my vision test for driving this summer. I have to be able to drive. I have no other way to get to work. There is no transit system that can take me to work. Could there be hope for those of us out there? Maybe, but we have to work together. We have to keep each other informed. We have to support each other. Is there hope? I believe there is... Today, seven years later, I believe there's a possibility through this web site that we may get some notice on the surgery mishaps. When I received an email from Ron, I was ecstatic. I can't tell you how excited I was. There may be hope that I may one day see again. I believe that the healing process has begun. I say it began the day my posting on the web site was answered. You can not believe how shocked I was to find out how many "unfortunates" there were out there. We are not alone...I believe that there is help out there...Let's find it. Let's all join together in doing everything we can to see the success of this web site. Lucie |
