Hello. My name is Jessica Adams and I am a 33 year old female from the Republic of Panama in Central America.

I started using glasses since I was 12 and by 25 I had -6.5 of miopia in each eye. I always hated using glasses so I investigated about having the operation. Finally I did on July of 1997 and everything went well for 6 years until December of 2003 when I noticed severe dry eye. From that date forward my eyes became so dry that it was unbearable. I went through the regular tests Sjogrens, Thyroid, etc.

All the doctors were saying that it was not related to Lasik because the dryness came along so late, but then they had to admit that it was the consequence of the surgery.

I started with lower punctual plugs and then upper punctual plugs, after that cauterization on all four punctua, googles and ointments, cold and warm compresses, you name it. Nothing helps, just a lot of praying and hope because my life has been changed. I don't know how I am able to go to work or study, because I am in a lot of pain. I am alive because of God's mercy, not because I am O.K.

I have had to say goodbye to things I enjoyed before like watching TV, reading, going to the movies or to the pool, being outdoors or traveling. Terrible, I feel like a caged animal. The only thing I can say is: PLEASE DO NOT HAVE THIS SURGERY and if you have speak up against it. I am already doing that: I published my testimony on a local newspaper and many people have been writing me back telling me how much they are suffering.

I only pray that God will help us all and bring healing to our eyes.

May God bless you all,

Jessica Adams
