I am a 43 year old Optometrist who had Lasik in May of 1999. I was -9.50-1.50 x 180 both eyes. I am now -2.00. My acuity in the each eye is correctable to 20/25, whereas before my surgery I could see 20/15.
My main trouble though is from an annoying ghost image in my right eye which is up & to the right. My left eye has a smaller ghosting with a slight vertical shifting. I also have the usual symptoms of haloes and starbursting at night. I know my problems are less severe than most of the stories I have read here, but the ghosting I have is very annoying, especially in bright lit places like food store or malls (Walgreens is a nightmare of ghost images). When I drive at night (which I can luckily do), traffic signals for my right eye appear as 3 to 5 different images depending on how far away I am. In the 9 months since my surgery, topographies have shown a smoothing out and I have seen improvements in acuity, but not in the other symptoms. I am hoping that some form of Topolink can help me someday; in the meantime I seem to get better vision from total punctal occlusion, which seems to form a thick tear film to mask my decentered ablations. I am currently not recommending Lasik to my patients at this time. I had been waiting for years for the technology to advance to get Lasik. Now I wish I had never heard of the word.
