High Myope
My personal experience with Lasik sounds like a carbon copy of many others I have read.

I was very near sighted (-10 and -12) but was told I was an "ideal candidate" for lasik. I was very apprehensive about having surgery on my eyes but the potential benefits of being able to see without glasses was very attractive. What tipped me over the edge in deciding to have the surgery was the fact that my opthalmologist had lasik himself and was very happy. He sent me to the eye surgeon who did his lasik, who is supposed to be one of the best in the field.

I had lasik on both eyes in January,1998, an enhancement on my left eye in August of 98 and an enhancement in my right eye in January of 1999. I am now at very close to a 0 correction in both eyes and can read the 20/25 line on the eye chart. Sounds great doesn't it? Well, it is not great at all. The only time I see well is in bright daylight. My low light and night vision is terrible! I have severe halos and starbursting at night which makes driving very difficult. My vision is also very "fuzzy" in low light situations. The overall quality of my vision is much worse than it was before I had lasik.

I know everybody's eyes are different but based on my experience I would not recommend Lasik to anyone.

The eye surgeon who did my lasik is aware of my problem. He thinks he may be able to improve my vision using the new topo linked laser technology. However, at this point he cannot guarantee anything or even give me the odds that he can improve my vision so I am holding off until more experience is gained with the topo linked lasers. I will also be getting a second and maybe a third opinion before undergoing any more laser treatments.
