Hello, my husband had Lasik on both eyes almost 3 years ago, and has nothing but ongoing major issues that seem to be getting progressively worse with each passing month. Here is his info:
Male, at the time 40yrs old.
Before lasik his prescription was:
Left eye:
+6
-125 X 178 Astigmatism

Right eye:
+5.75
-1 X 002 Astigmatism

He was assured whole heartedly and without fail he was a candidate and would never have to wear glasses ever again that his vision could be corrected to perfect. Both eyes were done at the same time and immediately following the surgery he could see wonderfully. However immediately, his eyes were extremely dry and has progressively gotten to the severe extreme, as we have purchased and tried most every known brand of eye drops by the gallons. Unfortunately, they only help for mere minutes at a time. He has had the plugs put in all 4 of his tear ducts again to no avail as far as helping with any type of moisture. He can no longer wear glasses at all as his vision is so distorted, and will never be able to rely on glasses ever again which is very disheartening. The outcome has been, his corneas are now so lumpy his vision is very distorted and the glasses merely bring the 'blur' closer and larger without any correction.

After having been prescribed various soft contacts as well as weighted lenses for astigmatism, his eyes have again changed quickly and these offer very little in the way of helping with clear vision. Night driving has become a true 'accident waiting to happen' and has been curtailed for not only his safety but others on the roadway as well.

He now is on the prescription Restasis with great hopes it will offer some relief, as it hasn't yet, but we remain hopeful. Also we have checked into Z-Wave lenses and are thinking of pursuing that avenue. We just don't know what else to do, noone seems to be able to help him.

Any help would be appreciated as well as opinions.
We are seriously thinking he was NOT a good candidate, as over the last 15 years we had checked a time or two and were told to keep checking years down the road as technology became better and better. We are just sick about this and wish now we had never heard the word Lasik. At least his eyes although they were very bad, were constant and he knew every morning putting on his heavy thick glasses would afford him the ability to see consistently and accurately......... it was reliable without incident. Now we don't even have that luxury.

Please, any help or opinions would be much appreciated and we will certainly be reading this boards posts in hopes of gaining as much info as we can in hopes of getting some answers and help. Thank you all in advance..........

Brenda,

As a fitter of the Z Wave lenses, I can say they do offer a great deal of help. However, with your husband's dry eye problem that may not be the answer either. There is also a new way to help all the distortions and halos patients get from glasses. I have been beta testing the I-Zon glasses and they are very promising. So far, every patient who has had lasik, and has tried these glasses, have said that they are the best glasses they have had. Some who were only correct to 20/40 with traditional glasses can now see 20/20. You might want to look at this website to learn more. I personally have these glasses and even though my distortions were not too bad, they are the first pair of glasses that I really feel comfortable with. (I mostly wear my Wave contact lenses).
