I have tried two or three times to use Restasis. I last about two weeks and stop because of burning and tiredness in my eyes. They seem worse. I was told I have unstable tears. I also have blepharitis and meibomitis.

I would like to hear if anyone has had good experience or otherwise with Restasis. I was told I might have to take it for six months.

Elizabeth,

Most of the post-Lasik patients I know who've tried Restasis have not had much success with it. Typically, they experience greater discomfort with it than without it, even after 3-6 months. However, I have heard from some people who had dry eye before surgery that Restasis helped them. I suppose it would depend on the source of the dry eye, as well as the individual.

Have you tried Dwelle, Dakrina or NutraTear, available at dryeyezone.com? Quite a few of us have gotten relief with the use of these drops. A search of the archives for "Dwelle" will bring up older threads about the drops and their effectiveness.

Artistwoman,

Thank you for your reply. I have not tried any of those drops and I will look into that.

Elizabeth,

What specific treatments are you doing for the blepharitis and meibomianitis? Dry eye drops are of limited use if those conditions are left untreated.

I am taking doxycycline, 100 mgs a day, compressing twice a day, scrubing lids once a day. I have taken doxycycline on and off for five years. The highest dosage was 200 mgs. per day. I have been given blephamide to use for five days, reducing dosage per day. I have only taken that about twice or three times in last two years. It helps I think with inflammation. I am always somewhat frustrated with clogged looking eyelids and soreness underneath my eyelids.
