A new book coming in the spring may provide some insight for laypersons about dry eye syndrome. While veteran Lasik dry-eye sufferers may not learn much new, Reversing Dry Eye Syndrome: Practical Ways to Improve Your Comfort, Vision and Appearance by Steven L. Maskin, MD, is a primer on dry eye published by Yale University Press Health and Wellness Series. Targeted toward the average consumer who wishes quick, helpful information to get rapid relief, the book begins with general background anatomy of the eye, as well as more detailed anatomy of dry eye-related structures.

A separate chapter on causes and chapters on allergy, Lasik, aging and contact lenses, are followed by chapters on diagnosis, treatment and home remedies, and another chapter on frequently asked questions. The book is meant to present basic knowledge and position patients to team up and synergize with their eye doctors to find relief.

Available in hardcover and paperback, the book can be pre-reserved on amazon.com and will be available in May '07. To reserve your copy, go to amazon.com, search for "reversing dry eye syndrome" and follow the prompts.
