Dear friends,

I have been away from the boards for a while. Trying to live, hope, and cope with starbursts, halos, and dry eyes with plugs for almost 6 months after Wavefront LASIK surgery. All the while, living with false hope of making some kind of significant improvement. I'm finally now coming to the point that I am fully convinced that this will not be happening.

Basically, day time is "tolerable", still with a few issues such as dryness and the occassional harsh light intrusion from the sun, reflections off cars and headlights. Night driving and living continues to challenge my character on a daily basis. I have a 40 miles each way commute which used to be bad for only a couple of reasons. Now, it's much worse and for an entirely different reason. The sickening irony that I now have to live with is that I "elected" to have this surgery. I was doing fine with my previous contact lenses, no dry eye, no evil GASH. I volunteered my eyes and my money to a vision salesman and an uncaring industry. I had this surgery to improve the quality of my life, which was going well, and instead it sent me spiraling.

Now, there isn't a day that goes by that I'm not spending hours and hours in regret. This surgery was supposed to make me "forget" about my vision problems. How eyeronic my life has turned out to be.

Anyways, I am posting today for two reasons:

1. To warn anyone considering this surgery that it is a crap shoot. It ended up for me to be not worth the risk.

2. That I am now ready to finally accept my situation and look into RGP lenses. If they work, I'll gladly wear them everyday and get passed the fact that I even paid $4,000 in order to not have to wear lenses.

Barbara, if you would be so kind as to help me with a referral to an expert fitter, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'll ping you off line.

I probably shouldn't expect these lenses to solve my problems completely, but it sounds like they'll at least help, and I'll take any improvement at this point.

Many thanks to everyone. Wishing you relief from your complications.

Rob

Hi Star-Mom,

I did try these drops a few months back. So much has happened since then, with so many different drops, plugs, etc. I'll give them another try. Thanks.

Rob

I hope they help because plugs, restasis, systane, refresh tears, celluvisc, genteal (and some more) did nothing at all for me. I had the plugs removed and gave these ones a try plus a couple of cod liver oil capsules daily and FINALLY got some relief!

Hi Rob,

I just replied in my post where you inquired how I was doing and I asked how you were doing, but I see it's not so well. I'm so sorry things are still bad for you. I think part of the reason I stopped posting here for awhile was that I needed to be away to accept what had happened to me, and learn how to deal with it. I've taken it one day, and one step at a time and seem to be managing so far. Now I can come back here and post and read up on others and not get so angry at the world.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. Please keep in touch and let me know of your progress. Since we had our surgery right around the same time, I'm always curious how you are doing.

Ruth
